Gathering all idea and creating a profile

Celebrity
  •  Born in Africa
  •   Parents moved her to Sydney for a better education. She was enrolled bording school,  where she learnt her talent and passion here as a classically trained ballet dancer.
  •  She took her passion and talent to an international level and become renowned. She felt a void in her career and moved into DJing.
  •  She is becoming famous for her talent as a ballet dancer and now turned DJ/performance dancer/artist – expressing her passion for her African heritage.
  •  She is a bright, vibrant, exuberant, over the top person.
  • Loves meeting new people, humanitarian with a big heart.

These Qualities of the Celebrity will be shown through:
  • Bright, colourful patterns.
  • Clothes with movement.
  •  Using a fan to create interesting shapes with clothes.
  • Layers of clothing to show the layers of her heritage à mixing and blending her cultures.

Further Inspiration

This shoot offers great inspiration, layers and clashing of colour, fabrics and clothes. The actual aesthetic of the shoot, more boho/tribal is not something I want to achieve, but more the successful way of putting together different textures and fabrics.
Earlier we were thinking of creating a half asian/black african dancer turned DJ/performer. We have decided mixing the two nationalities is too confusing and with the inspiration from this shoot using colours and layers of clothing with the model we have chosen. We have decided to make the celebrity from African decent - ballet dancer trained in Australia turned DJ/ Performance artist. This way colour will look amazing and bold on her skin !

Developing our concept

Celebrity: Alexa Chung
Taking inspiration from one part of her career being a DJ, yet still very famous for other talents as well. Our dancer could also develop from dancing into a DJ/performance artist. This creates more layers to her profile and more of a reason to be a celebrity !!! Matisse and I are both loving this idea, we just need to start thinking about the styling aspects and how to show it ?

Inspired by the model - Sendra Isaac Chol

Matisse and I both really like the look of this model and thought we could make the celebrity a cross between Asian and African and turn this girls face into a geisha girl and paint it. I am not so sure about this idea, Matisse really like it. However I think it creates alot of confusion for the viewer having a mix of ethnicities, so things definately need to be refined !!!

Inspiration

IDEA: Merging the idea of a dancer, could be ballet ? and a celebrity of Asian decent ?

These 2 images from the movie 'Black Swan', the idea of a theatrical performer/ballet dancer - its not enough for a person to be a 'celebrity', we need to develop this idea further. Can take inspiration from these poses and body shapes. One thing I noticed through these images and love aesthetically is the use of neutral colours - Black, White and Grey. Very sleek and fits in with the asian idea as well.
However my partner Matisee is not such a fan of the Black, White and Grey as a colour palette. We will need to make a compromise and find something we both like and inspired by !!!

Brainstorming Shoot 2 - Celebrity Shoot

Brainstorming different celebrities to see what interests Matisse and I. We both loved the idea of the asian decent or inspired celebrity, it gives alot of creative innovative freedom. Playing with drape, assymetrical clothes in the styling aspect of the shoot !

Cultural Trend Shoot - Final Shots

3 Chosen shots to use in my magazine

Other shots which I think are great!

Overall I am quite happy with these shots, I believe they do reflect the mentally sick image that Rachel and I were trying to achieve.  This was done through the stylistic elements - choice of colour palette and the minimal hair and make up used were contributers. However I do think the model choice could have been better, Courtney was perfect however Bianca was a bit harsh. So I just need to learn from this, when choosing a model for the next shoot. The top image of Courtney in the bath, is my favourite shot. The reason for this; is overall all the elements work really well together. The simplistic yet powerful styling, the chosen location of the bath and the pose of Courtney have all helped to complement one another.

This photoshoot would belong in i-D magazine, the raw and honest nature suits the magazines style. The issue explored in this shoot was quite confronting and less mainstream which I think suits the ideals of the independent magazine itself. The independent media states how i-D magazine "now documents high fashion too, its still laced with the same rebellious spirit as was present in its early issues". This quote definately proves how the photoshoot above fufills these requirements.
